Over the years Micro finance has made the delivering a unity of purpose. On one hand it has proved as an effective tool for lifting the standard of living of the stakeholders and on the other it steered them towards self-reliance. Besides asset creation it has generated alternative source of income for many and today many women are self-reliant through constant support of SMS. Concurrently it has created aware, poised & empowered women who can initiate changes in the society.

Women manage exclusively more than 33 per cent out of the total micro-credit supported enterprises in the districts and 23 per cent are managed jointly with men.
Seasonal fallow land reduced leads to increase in local economy with enhanced use of labour and inputs.
Multiple cropping functions as an insurance against risks. Multiple productions like investment in short-term farm trade (flower based trade) indemnifies risks and reduces chance of repayment default.
Livelihood resurgence is evident among the underprivileged community through intensive seasonal land transfer leading to vast participation in productive sectors and subsequent linkage to market.
Women entrepreneurs have emerged in a large way with developed skills in interpreting market intelligence adding values to livelihood ventures challenging male dominance in livelihood.
MFI participants, especially women, are often empowered to speak out more, assume leadership roles, and address issues beyond their workplace, such as domestic violence. At the personal level, micro finance can effectively address issues associated with non-material poverty, which includes social and psychological effects that prevent people from realizing their potential.
Under SMS women exclusively run several MF branches like at Helencha and two other branches in the Murshidabad district.
Also 50% of branch managers are women taking all branches together with about 85% female staff
Remarkable Feat
The MFD has evolved the life of SHG women through financial prosperity and empowerment beyond recognition. Further SMS has taken every measure to strengthen the SHG Federated structure and driving it towards gaining recognition as a legal entity.
