SMS has known to bring well-being into the lives of children in the truest sense realising proper nutrition, health& hygiene and education is essential for them. It is crucial to improve the life of their families as a whole & was started with over 1200 children and their families.

Objective: Creating educated healthy & self-sufficient Child.

Currently, SMS is supporting about 800 families, sponsoring education, health, and nutrition, also rendering other supports for 800 children.

Books, exercise books and accessories and uniforms were distributed among 726 students. While 3 nutrition camps were held, nutrition supplementary food to about 18 undernourished children was provided.

In the current year (08-09) SMS monitored growth over 50 children. It has also arranged for nutrition awareness meetings on 60 occasions. It has organised nutrition camps, anti-pollution programs, distributed utensils/necessities, to improve and support life as a whole for the relevant families of the sponsored children. Besides educational assistance (scholarship to 5 students), Hope scholarship (2 students) is provided to pursue higher studies. To raise awareness about health, 80 health awareness meetings for children & their families (165 families) were arranged.

SMS runs its own clinic, weekly twice for sponsored children, where she provides free treatment to all sponsored children.

Chronic patients are referred to esteemed institutions with SMS guiding and providing financial support entirely.

Impact

Through regular health service & routine immunisation awareness is generated

Tb/cholera & other chronic diseases have been completely eradicated through awareness and proper treatments.

Initially 300/350 children used to attend are now reduced to barely 10/20.

Many students are still pursuing education even after the program

Awareness in hygiene practice is generated-where low cost latrines (1100 cumulative) & 87 bathrooms were built- resulting in reduced RTI cases

Flooring for 81houses were done

201 CI model houses each costing Rs125000 were built

Garbage pit built at 18 spots

Home repairing for 1043 families

Community tube well at 60 points

Nutrition awareness supplementary food to malnourished reduced from 205 to 4

YHC-sex education imparted to adolescents evolving18 peer educators, latter training 480/500 y ouths in the community

SMS has so far supported wellness for 2000 families.

Mobilising Youth Group
SMS has taken initiative to mobilize the youth group (12-19 yrs) through youth group activities(or VALUE FORMATION) sensitizing the youth group on several social issues. It is done through youth induction & graduation programs, awareness camps, and workshops/trainings on pollution and other relevant social issues.

The youths also get vocational trainings on computer, tailoring etc. The youth group based on collection from the local community organise YUVA MELA on specific social issues each year.
